Dear Parents,
Does this sound familiar?
Parent: “Have you started studying?”
Child: “Yes.”
Parent: “What have you done?”
Child: “I’ve read through my work.”
Parent: “And?”
Child: “And what?”
Sound familiar? 😄
With year-end examinations approaching, many learners are spending hours looking over their notes, highlighting important information and convincing themselves that they know their work.
But here’s the thing: recognising an answer when you read it is very different from being able to produce that answer in an examination.
That’s where proper examination practice makes a difference.
Less reading. More doing. Better understanding.
We’ve been revising our Grade 4–7 Year-end Examination Bundles.
Each bundle includes resources for three important subjects:
Mathematics: Comprehensive revision workbooks covering the year’s key concepts, together with examination practice papers. Learners can practise calculations, tackle problem-solving questions and identify exactly where they need additional help.
English Home Language: Comprehension, language and grammar activities, visual literacy and poetry, where applicable. These questions encourage learners to interpret information, think critically and formulate well-supported answers.
Afrikaans First Additional Language: Begrip, taal en kreatiewe taal. Plenty of opportunities to practise language rules, develop vocabulary and become more confident when answering questions in Afrikaans.
And, of course, all our resources include detailed memorandums. Because knowing that an answer is incorrect is not nearly as useful as understanding why it is incorrect.
A word about Mathematics workbooks…
Our Mathematics Exam Papers 1 and 2 are an important part of year-end preparation. Both papers include a good balance of straightforward questions that test essential skills and more challenging questions that require learners to think carefully, apply their knowledge and solve problems.
We strongly recommend that learners work through both examination papers, preferably with pen and paper and without referring to their notes. This gives them valuable practice in answering the types of questions they may encounter in their school examinations.
The Mathematics workbooks, on the other hand, are designed to provide additional practice in important concepts covered throughout the year.
And here’s something worth remembering: Your child does not need to complete every question in every workbook!

One last thought…
A child who gets an answer wrong while practising has discovered something useful.
A child who only discovers that gap during the examination has missed an opportunity.
So, encourage your child to put the notes aside occasionally, pick up a pen and attempt a few questions independently.
Warm regards,
The StudyChamp Team
